The American actor Edgar Buchanan (1903 – 1979) started his career as a practicing dentist. Perhaps best known for his TV roles in Judge Roy Bean (1956), Petticoat Junction (1963), and Cade’s County (1971), he gave up dentistry at the age of 36 to become an actor.  He made his film debut in 1939.  Dr. Buchanan’s chubby face and gravelly voice were featured in over 100 films.
It is said that he provided his dental skills on the set a number of times.  One one such occasion, he pulled the tooth of his stand-in of 25 years, Jack Henderson.
