Not so long ago, dentures were common wedding gifts in the British Isles. Evidently this was because many people expected that they would eventually lose all of their teeth.  In fact, some individuals actually expedited the process by having their teeth extracted at an early age.
Some people feel that many of their dental problems would vanish if they just pulled all of their teeth and got full upper and lower dentures.  Unfortunately, as many denture wearers will tell you, they are simply trading one set of problems for another.  Lower full dentures are notorious for being more difficult to wear than the uppers.  The denture is moved by the tongue, it can hurt the thin lower ridge of bone (which often shrinks over time) and — in some cases, patients can’t even wear their lower denture at all. This makes speech and eating — not to mention appearance — a real challenge.
Fortunately, today, we have workable solutions for loose lower dentures.  So no need to hold out for that wedding present.
